This tool turns an ordinary photo into a passport size photo. You pick the size your country uses, position your face in the frame, and download either a single photo or a print sheet with several copies to print at home or at a photo shop.

It works in your browser, so your photo is not uploaded. It does not remove or replace the background, so start with a photo taken against a plain light wall.

How to use

  1. Click Choose a photo or drop it here and pick a front-facing photo.
  2. Choose the Photo size, for example 35 × 45 mm or 2 × 2 inch.
  3. Drag the photo inside the frame and use Zoom until your face fits the oval, with your eyes near the dotted line.
  4. Adjust Brightness if the photo looks dark.
  5. Choose a Print sheet size: 4 × 6 inch photo paper or A4.
  6. Click Download print sheet (JPG), or Download single photo for online applications.

Which size do I need?

Size Pixels at 300 DPI Commonly used for
35 × 45 mm 413 × 531 Pakistan, UK, Schengen countries and many others
2 × 2 inch (51 × 51 mm) 600 × 600 United States, India
33 × 48 mm 390 × 567 China
35 × 35 mm 413 × 413 Some visa and ID forms

These are the common sizes, but rules differ by document and change over time. Always check the official page of the office you are applying to before printing. For Pakistani documents, the NADRA and passport office sites list their current requirements.

Taking a photo that gets accepted

Getting the size right is the easy part. The photo itself matters more. A few things to get right:

  • Stand about half a metre in front of a plain white or very light wall. Patterned curtains, doors and busy rooms behind you cause trouble.
  • Use even light from the front, such as facing a window during the day. Light from one side throws a shadow on half your face and on the wall.
  • Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression and your mouth closed. Keep both ears and the outline of your face visible unless your country allows otherwise.
  • Ask someone else to take it from about 1.5 metres away at head height. Selfies held close distort the nose and face.

The oval and eye line in the frame are a rough guide to head size. Official rules give exact measurements in millimetres from chin to crown, so if your country is strict, compare against its published template.

Printing the sheet correctly

The download is a 300 DPI JPG at exactly the paper size, so each photo prints at the right size as long as nothing scales it. When printing at home, choose 100 percent or "actual size", not "fit to page", and use matching paper. A photo shop can print the 4 × 6 sheet as a normal photo print. On a 4 × 6 sheet you get 8 copies of a 35 × 45 mm photo or 6 copies of a 2 × 2 inch photo. Cut along the thin grey lines.

Before you cut, measure one photo with a ruler. If it is not the size you chose, the printer scaled it.

FAQ

Is this passport photo maker free, and is my photo uploaded?

It is free with no watermark. Cropping and the print sheet are created in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device.

Can I use the photo for an online application?

Yes. Use Download single photo to get a JPG at the exact pixel size. If the portal also has a file size limit, run the photo through the image resizer with a target size in KB.

Can it make the background white?

No. This tool does not remove backgrounds. Take the photo against a plain white or light wall instead, which also gives a more natural result.
